It’s no secret that journalists are inundated with pitches.
As a business owner, how do you cut through the inbox clutter and create a pitch that truly stands out? Lifestyle journalist Hilary Sheinbaum – contributor to NY Times, Entrepreneur and more – joined me for an Instagram Live about how to get media coverage for your business.
Here are a few of her top tips:
Know your audience. When you pitch a writer, make sure the topic is in line with the writer’s work.
Remember you’re pitching a human being. Spell the writer’s name right, make it personal and be friendly! It’s obvious when you copy and paste the same pitch to several people.
Get right to the point. Hilary receives more than 300 pitches a day, not counting follow-ups. Use your subject line to make it immediately clear what you’re hoping to achieve.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and submitted Qs and to Hilary for sharing her wisdom with us!
Editor’s Note: I started my Asking for Myself IG Live series as a way to answer some of those pressing and common questions about business and entrepreneurship, because no matter what industry you’re in, these questions are prevalent.
One of the most misunderstood industries I’ve seen to date: Influencer marketing.
Head to Forbes to read my latest about some of the most commonly asked questions about influencers (Spoiler: Yes, influencers pay taxes).
